Anatomy of a Spray Tan

I love to be tanned, the darker the better. Unfortunately my genetic predisposition (can we say 'ginger'?) doesn't allow me to achieve the results I desire through conventional tanning. And who wants wrinkles and cancer anyways? My solution: the Spray Tan!

Many people have asked my advice about the procedure and so I thought I'd outline the process step by step.

1) Do your research! Ask someone you know (i.e. me) who has been before where they would recommend. I have definitely visited a few places that I would not go back. You want to feel confident going in that you will be happy with the results.
2) People always ask: how many days before my event should I get it done? The biggest mistake I think people make is getting it done too far in advance. Personally I would get it done no more than 2 days before your event. The effects don't last that long if you are showering and working out like normal so waiting 4 or 5 days is pushing it.
3) Before you go make sure you wash and exfoliate your whole body. Dry, dead skin will result in an uneven tan. Don't put on any lotion, deodorant or perfume after your shower as these products may act as a barrier and prevent the product from absorbing into your skin.
4) Wear dark, baggy clothes to your appointment. You don't want to wear anything tight or constricting because it could rub off the tanner before it has a chance to soak in.
5) Yes, someone will see you naked. Trust me, they have seen it all and then some, so get over it! That said, feel free to wear whatever you feel comfortable in, but keep in mind that the spray solution will get on it. It generally washes out of most fabrics but better be safe than sorry.
6) Don't freak out! At first you will think you look really really dark! Whatever you do, just wait until the next morning before you do anything! At this time, hop in the shower but don't scrub or use harsh soaps. You will see color coming off in the shower, this is normal! I usually wash my face with my regular cleanser because I don't like it as dark, but just rinse the rest of my body.
7) If you want your tan to last, buy a 'tan extender' available at your tanning salon.

So there it is ladies! Happy Tanning!

xoxo

p.s. by the way, those are totally my abs in the pic...jealous?
